John O'Keefe 040c10ac76 feat(matching): family-lens scoping for book matching and linking
/api/books/match returned media metadata from ALL libraries regardless
of visibility: the resolver lookups (GetMediaItemBySHA256 and friends)
are global, so match results leaked hidden-library titles, covers and
ids to any authenticated user, and LinkBook accepted a link target from
a hidden library. Both now enforce the family-lens rule:

- QueryBooks post-filters the cascade by the requester's visible-library
  set (absent-from-results — a hidden library's book simply never
matches), before determineAction so the suggested action reflects the
filtered set. BookQueryRequest gains a server-side-only
VisibleLibraryIDs field; nil keeps legacy callers unfiltered.
- LinkBook verifies the device belongs to the caller
(DeviceExistsForUser) and the target item's library is visible —
403 otherwise. Linking was previously unscoped on both axes.
- GetUnlinkedBooks likewise verifies device ownership (its service is
still a stub, but the route no longer answers for other users'
  devices).

Also: the collections books-grid partial uses a light loader —
requested library validated against the visible set directly instead of
the page-only library resolution (folder reachability, counts,
dropdown payload), removing the extra queries that made library
switching hold the spinner longer.

And the dashboard library switch now folds the This Week widget's
htmx refresh behind the spinner (refreshWeekWidget awaits the widget's
swap, with a safety timeout) instead of letting it pop in after the
fade-in — the two-stage update introduced with the widget's
library-scoped re-fetch.

Guardrail: the rendering lint now counts all innerHTML assignments (not
just template-literal ones) — the old pattern undercounted 20 files at
80 sites, including .join("") builders like renderDashboardCollections.
Baseline rebalanced accordingly.

John O'Keefe 89665fb2bc feat(annotations + player): bookmark rows in the banner, stacked volume panel, badge parity for comics/manga
Annotations banner: audio/text bookmarks join notes and highlights —
third row kind (bookmark glyph indicator, H:MM:SS / Page N / Chapter N
friendly labels), edit-note/delete actions branch by kind, and the
banner's export now covers all annotations. The archived ledger
(ListDeletedAnnotationsForBook) already tombstoned bookmarks equally
and Restore/Purge take annotation_type=bookmark — verified live:
delete → restore brings the row back with its note intact.

Volume: the dragger sits BELOW the mute icon in the panel (stacked
flyout shape) with the horizontal slider from the last round.

Badges: the real fix for comics/manga — format_group only knows
'comic_archive' (manga_type is unreliable across sources), so the
comic/manga split is resolved from the LIBRARY type server-side.
handlers.MediaBadgeKind + BookInfo.Badge at every construction site
(dashboard SSR + sections API, collections, series, and the bookshelf
search grid — which was also missing FormatGroup entirely, so no card
ever badged there). Both renderers (templ + dashboard.ts) switch on
the resolved badge. Verified: All-Books grid renders 2 Comic + 3
Manga badges, dashboard the audiobook one.

Infra: header.templ main.js src gains ?v=<stamp> — browsers keyed an
intermediate bundle by URL and served it across rebuilds (the stale
'Add note' the user saw); bump the stamp when JS stale-shadows.

John O'Keefe 2c714dcb60 fix(audio player + dashboard): markdown bookmark notes, horizontal volume, transport glyphs, client-side badges
Bookmarks: notes are markdown now — capture and drawer edit are
textareas (raw source), display renders through the reader's
markdown-it + DOMPurify pipeline (renderNoteHtml) as x-html; the
edit textarea drops the enter-to-save handler so newlines survive.

Volume: the panel dragger is horizontal (mute button beside it,
7.5rem slider) per user feedback — vertical orientation read as a
scrubber clone at a glance.

Play/pause: unicode glyphs replaced with SVG — the triangle is
optically centered (2px right-bias) and the pause bars are longer
and thicker rounded rects (4.2×15 at rx 1.7).

Dashboard: the client-side card renderer (dashboard.ts — the path the
JSON sections actually render through) now mirrors the templ BookCard:
cover-corner badges for audiobook/comic/manga (books unbadged) and the
hover action shows headphones with 'Listen to …' labels for audiobooks.
BookInfo type + Go struct carry format_group end to end.

Verified on-device: pause glyph centered/thicker, horizontal volume
panel, markdown note ('**bold**' + list) rendered in the bookmarks
drawer, badges on dashboard cards, sections JSON carrying
format_group.

John O'Keefe 0914c935d9 feat(dashboard): collapsible This Week widget, library-scoped + switch-surviving; title into the subbar
Three dashboard complaints, one build:

- The widget collapses to a single summary row (This Week · minutes ·
pages · sessions · books · streak · Full stats) on every screen size
and expands to the full grid via a details/summary toggle — the
carousel sections start immediately below it again.
- The 'Your Library' heading moved into the library switcher subbar
(LibrarySwitcher gains an optional title param; collections/series
keep the plain 'Library' label). The standalone heading block is
  gone.
- Root-caused the JS-switch vanishing: renderDashboardCollections
replaces ALL of #collections-container's innerHTML, so anything
server-rendered inside it (title, widget) died on the first library
switch. The widget now re-fetches ITSELF: a /dashboard/week-widget
fragment (same resolveLibrary family-lens rules as the page) is
pulled by htmx whenever the switcher dispatches week-refresh —
carrying the current #library-select value — so the widget both
survives switches and RE-SCOPES to the switched library. Initial SSR
renders the same scope the sections use.

ThisWeek (and the streak calendar) gained an optional library filter.
Tests: TestReadingStatsWeekLibraryScope — per-library totals, scoped
streaks, invisible-library isolation, malformed id 400. Full suite
PASS.

John O'Keefe b1de0da512 feat(web): dashboard All Libraries view saves the global scope
The All Libraries entry in the library switcher could render the
cross-library dashboard but rejected its own settings: the modal
refused to open without a library ('Select a specific library...') and
a save sent library_id: '' (server 400). The server now stores a
global scope (separate table; null/absent library_id, empty string
still 400), so:

- openDashboardSettings allows the All view and fetches prefs without
the library param (reads the global row; previously a loose NULL
OR-clause matched an arbitrary library's row).
- saveDashboardSettings sends library_id: null from All Libraries.
- The settings modal gains a scope label (#dashboard-scope-label)
showing which library — or All Libraries — a save will customize
(user requirement: always know the scope).

Verified end-to-end in headless Chromium: reorder on All Libraries →
save (null) → reload → modal re-opens with the persisted order and the
All Libraries scope label; per-library save lands in its own row
without touching global (SQL-checked).

john-okeefe 04e2a069d6 fix(dashboard): stop duplicating items after scan completion
Release / build-and-push (push) Successful in 5m9s
The scan-complete handler in dashboard.ts attempted to deduplicate book
cards by querying [data-media-item-id], but neither the client-side
renderBookCard nor the server-side BookCard template ever set that
attribute. As a result the dedup Set was always empty, every item from
the API response was treated as new, and all items were prepended via
insertAdjacentHTML('afterbegin', ...) on every 5-minute scan — causing
visible duplication (doubling, tripling) that only cleared on page
refresh.

Fix by replacing the fragile dedup-and-prepend logic with a per-track
full innerHTML replace. This is simpler, correctly handles items that
should be removed after a scan (the old code never removed anything),
and also removes stale sections no longer returned by the API.

Additional hardening:
- Add data-media-item-id to both renderBookCard (dashboard.ts) and the
  server-side card wrapper (dashboard.templ) so server-rendered and
  JS-rendered cards are structurally identical.
- Guard the bookhoard:scan-complete listener registration with a
module-level boolean (scanListenerRegistered) so the handler cannot
accumulate if Alpine ever re-inits the body subtree.
- Remove debug console.log statements from the scan handler.

john-okeefe f67232a20b fix(ui): show read action on JS-rendered dashboard cards
The dashboard re-renders its sections client-side (library switch,
refresh, saving settings) via renderBookCard in dashboard.ts, which was
still the old markup with no .book-card-action overlay. So the read
button appeared on the server-rendered cards but vanished as soon as the
dashboard re-rendered, while the bookshelf (always templ-rendered) kept
working.

- Rewrite renderBookCard to match the templ BookCard: detail link plus
the play/read action overlay, routing to the reader or the detail page
when the book has an active conflict.
- Add has_conflict to the BookInfo TS type and stamp it in the dashboard
sections API (GetSections) so client-rendered cards can route correctly.
- Add pointer-events-none / group-hover:pointer-events-auto to the
client-rendered carousel nav buttons so they no longer swallow hover
over edge cards, matching the templ fix.

john-okeefe 7221906d53 feat(ts): centralized library storage with cookie-based SSR support
- storage.ts: Centralize ALL_LIBRARIES = "__all__" sentinel constant.
setSelectedLibrary() now writes both localStorage and a cookie
  (selectedLibrary, Path=/, SameSite=Lax, max-age=365d). The
sentinel "__all__" is used in both storage mediums — empty strings
are never stored. getSelectedLibrary() maps __all__ back to "".
Cookie enables server-side rendering to read the stored library
  selection without access to localStorage.

- library-switcher.ts: Import ALL_LIBRARIES and setSelectedLibrary/
getSelectedLibrary from storage.ts instead of managing localStorage
  directly. Remove local constants.

- dashboard.ts: Remove duplicate localStorage.setItem call that was
overwriting the __all__ sentinel with raw empty string. Fix
reloadPage() and scan-complete handler to work with empty libraryId.
  openDashboardSettings/saveDashboardSettings show clear messages for
  All Libraries mode.

- collections.ts: Remove library switcher initialization from the
collections list page — the list page no longer has a switcher.

- series.ts: Rewrite to use initLibrarySwitcher from library-switcher
module and switchWithTransition for navigation. Series card links
no longer include library_id in their URLs.

- bookshelf.ts: Autocomplete fetch calls handle empty libraryId
  correctly for All Libraries mode.

- search.ts, collection-rules.ts: Use setSelectedLibrary() and
getSelectedLibrary() from storage.ts instead of direct localStorage
  access.

john-okeefe 64d3e8d272 feat(frontend): integrate shared library switcher into all pages
Wire up the shared library switcher module on dashboard, collections
list, collection detail, and collection rules pages. All pages use SSR
for initial load and AJAX with fade transitions on library switch.

web/src/collections.ts:
- Add initCollectionsPage() that auto-detects list vs detail page
  by checking for #collection-data element
- Collections list: onSwitch fetches /api/collections?library_id=X and
re-renders the grid with per-library book counts
- Collection detail: onSwitch fetches /api/collections/:id?library_id=X
  and re-renders the books grid
- Add renderCollectionsGrid() and renderCollectionBooks() with
  Alpine.initTree() calls for dynamic content
- Collection cards now link with ?library_id= from selected library
- Update hidden #collection-data data-library-id on switch

web/src/dashboard.ts:
- Replace standalone switchLibrary() with initLibrarySwitcher() +
  switchWithTransition() from shared module
- Extract fetchAndRenderSections() helper shared by onSwitch callback,
  reloadPage(), and saveDashboardSettings()
- Remove inline #library-select change listener and switch-library
data-action handler (now handled by shared module)
- Scan-complete event handler unchanged (independent incremental logic)

web/src/collection-rules.ts:
- Update backToCollection() to preserve library context by appending
  ?library_id= from localStorage selectedLibrary key

john-okeefe 37e092c2a8 feat(dashboard): dynamic scan-complete refresh without page reload
When a scan completes, dynamically update the dashboard carousels instead of
requiring a full page reload:

- Listen for bookhoard:scan-complete custom event dispatched by header
- Fetch updated sections from /api/dashboard/sections
- Diff existing book cards by data-media-item-id attribute
- Prepend new items to carousel tracks (afterbegin) to match API sort order
- Create entirely new section DOM for sections that don't yet exist on page
- Remove 'No items' placeholder when items are added
- Scroll carousel to left (scrollLeft=0) so newly prepended items are visible

Also:
- Extract renderSectionHTML() helper from renderDashboardCollections() for reuse
- Add data-media-item-id attribute to book card template for DOM diffing
- Add diagnostic console.log statements for debugging scan-complete flow

john-okeefe 3a3fa8763e fix(dashboard): use anchor tags for client-side rendered book cards
When switching libraries via TypeScript, renderBookCard() built book
cards as <div> elements with data-action="view-book" for event
delegation, but the click handler was commented out — making books
unclickable after any library switch. The SSR path used proper <a> tags.

Now renderBookCard() wraps cards in <a href="/media/{id}"> to match the
SSR BookCard template, so book links work identically regardless of
whether content was server-rendered or client-rendered.

Also removed the dead view-book handler code and viewBook() stub.

Additionally fixed a listener re-registration bug where the input and
library-select change listeners were nested inside the click callback,
causing them to be registered N times after N clicks. Moved them to
initDashboard() scope so they register exactly once.

john-okeefe a157c546fd feat: add book detail page links from browse pages
Add clickable links to book detail page (/media/:uuid) from:

- Dashboard: BookCard components now link to detail page
  - Changed from data-action pattern to direct <a> tags
  - Removes unused viewBook() function and switch case
  - Follows progressive enhancement (works without JS)

- Collections: Book titles link to detail page
  - Books displayed in collection detail view

- Progress: Book titles link to detail page
  - Progress cards now have clickable title links

All links use direct navigation for better UX and progressive enhancement.
Book detail page can display comprehensive metadata, reading progress,
sync status, and external service links.

john-okeefe ea2463fe44 fix(frontend): remove jarring forced reload on dashboard navigation
Remove unnecessary full page reload that occurred on dashboard load
when localStorage library preference didn't match URL parameter.

Changes (web/src/dashboard.ts):

1. Remove forced reload logic (lines 514-520, deleted):
   - Deleted: window.location.href redirect on library mismatch
   - Removed: localStorage.getItem("selectedLibrary") check
   - Removed: URL parameter comparison logic

2. Fix localStorage key inconsistency (line 158):
   - Changed: "selectedLibraryId" → "selectedLibrary"
   - Now matches: switchLibrary() function (line 230)
   - Now matches: storage.ts utility (getSelectedLibrary/setSelectedLibrary)
   - Ensures consistency across entire application

User Experience Impact:

Before:
- Dashboard loads → Checks localStorage vs URL → Forces reload if mismatch ❌
- User switches library → switchLibrary() runs smoothly → But next interaction triggers reload ❌
- Jarring full page reload disrupts UX ❌

After:
- Dashboard loads → SSR provides fresh data (no reload) ✅
- User switches library → switchLibrary() fetches fresh data with smooth fade animation ✅
- No forced reloads → Smooth, seamless navigation ✅

Technical Details:

The removed code was attempting to restore the user's last-selected library
when returning to the dashboard. However, this was redundant because:

1. SSR already provides fresh dashboard data on navigation
2. switchLibrary() function already fetches fresh data via API
3. Library select has change event listener that calls switchLibrary()
4. Forced reload happened BEFORE smooth switching could work

The reload logic was added to preserve library selection across sessions,
but it caused more UX problems than it solved. Users now get smooth
navigation while still maintaining library selection via the dropdown.

Browser Testing:
- Navigate to /dashboard → Smooth load
- Switch library dropdown → Smooth fade transition
- Navigate away and back → No forced reload
- No console errors

john-okeefe b77da3a289 refactor: migrate dashboard to SSR-first Alpine.js pattern
Update dashboard to follow SSR-first Alpine.js guidelines:
- Add x-data="dashboard" and x-init="initDashboard()" to body tag
- Wrap initialization in initDashboard() function instead of executing at load time
- Alpine.js only manages UI state, data fetching happens via HTMX/SSR
- Remove immediate initDragAndDrop() call (now called from initDashboard)

This fixes DOM Content Loaded timing issues and follows the established pattern
used in analytics and docs pages. The dashboard now properly supports:
- SSR with initial data rendered server-side
- Alpine.js for interactive UI (drag-drop, modals)
- HTMX for dynamic updates without page reload
- Progressive enhancement (works without JavaScript)

john-okeefe 2075077bb7 refactor: remove unnecessary DOMContentLoaded wrappers
Since main.js has 'defer' attribute, the DOM is guaranteed to be
ready when modules execute. These wrappers are unnecessary.

dashboard.ts:
- Removed DOMContentLoaded wrapper, code runs directly
- Event delegation setup runs immediately

custom-section-builder.ts:
- Removed DOMContentLoaded wrapper
- initCustomSectionBuilder() called directly

toast.ts:
- Removed DOMContentLoaded wrapper
- initializeToastSystem() called directly at top level
- Removed dead Alpine.data registration (unused)

search.ts:
- Removed DOMContentLoaded wrapper
- initializeSearch exported for use in header

theme.ts:
- Removed DOMContentLoaded wrapper
- Functions now exported for use in header Alpine component

john-okeefe 9947a12f09 refactor(ts): Convert internal window dependencies to ES modules
Phase 1 of ESBuild migration: Convert 193+ internal window reads
to proper ES module imports across consumer modules.

Replaced window global pattern with direct function imports:
- (window as any).showToast → import { showToast } → showToast(msg, "type")
- (window as any).api.post → import { apiPost } → apiPost(url, data)
- (window as any).dom.getElementById → import { getElementById }

Modules migrated:
- admin.ts: Convert 14 showToast window reads
- analytics.ts: Add ES export (no window reads)
- conflicts.ts: Convert 6 showToast window reads
- custom-section-builder.ts: Convert api.post reads, add ES exports
- dashboard.ts: Convert 10 window reads (api, showToast)
- device-management.ts: Convert 4 showToast window reads, add Alpine registration
- linking.ts: Convert showToast window reads
- queue.ts: Convert 8 showToast window reads

Additionally added Alpine.js registration for templates:
- device-management.ts: Register copyToClipboard, regenerateDeviceToken

Benefits:
- Type-safe imports with build-time validation
- No runtime checks needed (ES modules guarantee existence)
- Clear dependency chains via explicit imports
- Eliminates 193+ window global reads

Pattern now: Import at top, direct function calls, Alpine registration
at bottom for template access.

Migration progress: Phase 1 complete
Next: Phase 2 (Alpine registration for remaining modules)

john-okeefe 42a20e3be3 feat: Improve wood paneling border colors and background blend
- Update wood-light border from harsh black (#2a2a2a) to lighter warm brown (#8b5a2b) for better harmony with light background
- Update wood-dark border from #5c3317 to #7a5228 (slightly lighter medium brown) for improved visibility on dark backgrounds
- Update wood-mahogany border from #5c3317 to #8b3a3a (medium red-brown) to enhance mahogany's characteristic reddish tones
- Reduce background blend opacity from 60% to 40% to create more subtle text area background that complements new border colors

These changes improve visual consistency between border colors and their respective wood paneling backgrounds while maintaining good text contrast across all wood themes.
