John O'Keefe 9e831085ef fix(ui): derive Library Type dropdowns from library_types — audiobooks was missing
The audiobook library type shipped backend-complete (LibraryTypeAudiobooks
constant, allowed extensions, MIME map, schema seed row, GET
/api/libraries/types) but neither create-library form offered it: the
admin Create Library modal and the setup wizard's add-library step both
hardcoded their <option> lists to the original three types
(ebooks/comics/manga), so an audiobook library could not be created from
the UI.

Both dropdowns now render from the same DB-backed library_types table
the create API resolves types against — a future type appears without
template edits (the exact drift the rendering-ownership rule warns
about):

- templates/utils.go: OrderedLibraryTypes pins the historical dropdown
order (ebooks, comics, manga, audiobooks) and appends unknown future
types by name; LibraryTypeDisplayName renders labels with a
capitalize-the-name fallback for types added without a label
- templates/admin_library.templ: new LibraryTypeOptions fragment used
by the modal's select; AdminLibrary takes the types list
- templates/setup.templ: Setup takes the types list, same fragment
- internal/router/helpers.go: libraryTypeOptionsFor fetches via
LibraryService.GetLibraryTypes, falling back to the built-in type
names on DB failure so the forms stay usable (CreateLibrary still
resolves the name against the DB, so the fallback is never
  authoritative)
- internal/router/frontend.go, internal/router/setup.go: pass the list
  into the two pages

Tests:
- templates/utils_test.go: pure unit tests for ordering + labels
- cmd/server/tests/admin_library_page_test.go: SSR regression —
/admin/library must offer all four library types, audiobooks exactly
once (options come from the DB loop, not a hardcode)

John O'Keefe b89eac22e3 fix(templ): stop emitting literal { expr } text into attributes and body classes
Release / build-and-push (push) Successful in 3m31s
templ does not interpolate { expr } inside quoted attribute values — the
braces ship as literal text (AGENTS.md gotcha #1). Swept every templ
source for the pattern and fixed all of it:

Body theme classes: 22 page bodies rendered class="theme-{ user.Theme }"
literally, so every page first-painted the :root default (Tokyo Night)
and flashed when main.js applied the real theme. All now render
class={ "theme-" + user.Theme } server-side.

Attribute interpolations (26 across 8 files):
- api_explorer: initAPIExplorerDoc path/body/response and the Copy
Request/Response buttons (invalid JS, silently dead)
- collections: book-selection :checked/@change/@click ids and four
  hx-get search URLs (collection_id={ collection.ID })
- conflicts: Resolve button id
- devices: Kobo sync-url/auth-token element ids (copy lookups only
worked because the id and the lookup were the same literal)
- unlinked_books: search-matches/manual-link clicks and container ids
- queue: status/priority badge classes never matched their CSS
- dashboard: Restore-section tooltip text
- collection_rules/collections: collection icon color

Free text goes through the new templates.JSONArg (json.Marshal) —
templ.JSONString in this templ version returns (string, error) and
cannot compose in attribute expressions; uuids via device.ID.String().
Includes regen-only drift from running templ generate (error-path
normalization) on files with no source change.

John O'Keefe 89665fb2bc feat(annotations + player): bookmark rows in the banner, stacked volume panel, badge parity for comics/manga
Annotations banner: audio/text bookmarks join notes and highlights —
third row kind (bookmark glyph indicator, H:MM:SS / Page N / Chapter N
friendly labels), edit-note/delete actions branch by kind, and the
banner's export now covers all annotations. The archived ledger
(ListDeletedAnnotationsForBook) already tombstoned bookmarks equally
and Restore/Purge take annotation_type=bookmark — verified live:
delete → restore brings the row back with its note intact.

Volume: the dragger sits BELOW the mute icon in the panel (stacked
flyout shape) with the horizontal slider from the last round.

Badges: the real fix for comics/manga — format_group only knows
'comic_archive' (manga_type is unreliable across sources), so the
comic/manga split is resolved from the LIBRARY type server-side.
handlers.MediaBadgeKind + BookInfo.Badge at every construction site
(dashboard SSR + sections API, collections, series, and the bookshelf
search grid — which was also missing FormatGroup entirely, so no card
ever badged there). Both renderers (templ + dashboard.ts) switch on
the resolved badge. Verified: All-Books grid renders 2 Comic + 3
Manga badges, dashboard the audiobook one.

Infra: header.templ main.js src gains ?v=<stamp> — browsers keyed an
intermediate bundle by URL and served it across rebuilds (the stale
'Add note' the user saw); bump the stamp when JS stale-shadows.

John O'Keefe 86f0af632e feat(audiobooks): A2 — narrator metadata, audio-aware UX, player polish, bookmarks
A2a (metadata round): narrators TEXT[] + narrators_search (tags
pattern: accumulator + GIN pairs) + abridged bool on media_items;
scanner fills from the Libation/ABS sidecar (narrators verbatim,
abridged flag) with audio-payload promotion; editorial fields ride
the real columns while audio_metadata stays scan-derived (duration/
codec/chapters). Detail/edit/save paths carry the fields; the web
edit dialog grows an Audio section (Narrator(s) comma-input, Abridged
toggle, scanned duration read-only); search weights + narrator filter
(word_similarity over narrators_search) + narrator autocomplete added.

A2c (per-media-type wording): copy helpers keyed on format_group —
Listen Now, Mark Complete/Not Complete, Listening Progress, Your
Listening Stats, Time Listening, Time listened (pages tile swapped for
audio), Position H:MM:SS / total H:MM:SS on detail + progress pages
(duration parsed from audio_metadata). Dashboard: system collections
swap to Continue Listening / Recently Listened at DISPLAY time when
the audiobooks library is selected (stored names unchanged; restores
keep working); week card = Listening Time / Sessions / Books Touched;
cover-corner badges identify audiobook (headphones) / comic / manga
cards on mixed grids — books stay unbadged; hover action icon follows
the media type.

A2b (player): the scrubber binds value to the playhead with an explicit
scrub guard (the handle previously froze at its initial max); header
row = reader-style back arrow + Chapter n/total launcher; chapters
open in a floating top-down drawer (current chapter highlighted, page
never shifts); Skip/Speed rows share one label-left layout; honest
wall-clock session accounting (playing-only deltas, paused flush).

A2d (bookmarks): note-bearing time bookmarks ride the existing
media_bookmarks substrate (notes column + sync-aware service already
there) — audio locator convention audio:<seconds>, chapter_number
filled, auto-title '<chapter> — H:MM:SS', capture popover with optional
note, drawer with jump/edit-note/delete. Zero server changes needed.

Verified live on the Libation sample: narrators backfilled by rescan;
PUT edit persisted + overrides detected (narrators, abridged); force
rescan preserved the user edit; reset-to-scanned-of-defaults restored
truth; narrator filter/autocomplete scoped by library; dashboard
listsening wording + badges render; bookmark save with note deduped to
one row.

John O'Keefe 320f31086d fix(web): field-mapping + fragile-hx-vals sweep across profile and library surfaces
Field-by-field audit of the profile surface (set → save → reopen →
read back, driven through the emulator browser via CDP):

- getTemplateUserWithTheme (every SSR page + the /profile self-edit
form) never mapped FirstName/LastName/CreatedAt — stored names
rendered as empty inputs. Now mapped (timezone was already mapped).
- Admin profile-modal Timezone mapping fixed earlier this round held:
  all seven fields verified set → 200 + HX-Refresh → reopen → correct
  values, DB cross-checked.
- Role promote/demote via the card select verified against the DB (the
PUT answers HX-Refresh, so the page reload shows the new role).
- Admin password reset verified end-to-end: new password logs in, old
  one 401s, original restored.
- admin_library folder-remove hx-vals was string-concatenated JSON —
a folder path containing a quote or backslash made it invalid and
the remove button silently died under htmx 2 (the same class as the
profile-save bug). Now built with json.Marshal behind the js:
prefix. Verified the generated attribute on the live page.
- Other hx-vals/hx-headers sites audited: constants and uuids only
  (safe charset), left alone.

John O'Keefe fe5ab9e5f8 feat(ui): hide missing books immediately and mark offline libraries
Two visibility fixes so the UI reflects the shelf's real state on the
next scan instead of only after the archive gate:

- Missing items disappear at once: the user-facing filters already hid
archived rows; the same listings now also require missing_scan_count =
  0. A deleted or moved-then-not-yet-repointed file vanishes from the
UI immediately, while purge timing stays gated on archived_at plus the
retention window - grace protects data, not visibility. Restored
  automatically when the file returns.
- Steam Deck SD-card model for unmounted storage: resolveLibrary stats
each library's folder roots and flags libraries with no live folder
as Offline (LibraryData gains the field, computed at request time so
mounts/unmounts react instantly). The bookshelf shows an empty shelf
plus a 'storage is not connected' notice for an offline selected
library, and both the shared LibrarySwitcher and the bookshelf's
inline select label offline libraries with their true holding counts.
Nothing is marked or purged while offline.
- TotalMediaCount skips offline libraries, so the 'All Books/Libraries'
totals match what is actually visible.

Verified live: renaming uploads/Manga away produced the notice, an
empty shelf, and the offline dropdown label with a corrected total;
renaming it back restored all 38 cards with zero dirty rows.

john-okeefe 8d65e03555 fix(ui): move theme checkmark when theme changes in Appearance menu
The checkmark in the Appearance theme menu was rendered server-side
(if user.Theme == opt.Name), so it never moved after switching themes
in the browser.

- Always render the check for every theme option, hidden by default,
using a new themeCheckClass(name, current) helper that returns the
hidden class unless the option is the active theme.
- Give each theme button a data-theme attribute and add
updateThemeIndicators() to web/src/theme.ts, which reads the applied
theme from the body class (theme-<name>) and toggles the hidden class
  on each check accordingly.
- Call updateThemeIndicators() from changeTheme (before the async save
and on failure), initializeTheme, and loadUserTheme so the menu stays
in sync with the applied theme.
- Add unit test for themeCheckClass (templates/utils_test.go) and
  regenerate templ output.

john-okeefe 598d70f735 feat(admin): editable tunable settings UI with grouped sub-sections
Replace the read-only "System Information" card (which listed hardcoded
values) with editable HTMX forms, organized so the live vs restart
distinction and related settings are visually clear.

admin_settings.templ:
- AdminSettings signature now takes liveGroups and restartGroups
([]SettingGroup) instead of a flat entry list.
- Remove the static System Information list. Render two cards: "Live"
(green, applies immediately) and "Restart Required" (warning header,
saved but only takes effect after restart).
- Within each card, TunableSettingsSection clusters entries into
labeled sub-sections by Group (e.g. "Password Quality", "Device Rate
Limits", "Login Lockout", "Worker Pool") with uppercase tracked
  sub-headers.
- TunableSettingRow renders an inline HTMX form per setting: a Yes/No
select for bools, a number input with min/max for ints, text
otherwise, posting to /admin/settings/tunable. Rows show "modified
from default" when the value differs from the compiled default.

types.go:
- Add SettingEntry (template-local mirror of database.SettingEntry,
keeps templates from importing database) and SettingGroup.

utils.go:
- Add GroupTunableSettings: splits a flat, group-sorted entry list into
live and restart []SettingGroup buckets preserving source order.
  utils_test.go covers the multi-group + empty cases.

frontend.go:
- The /admin/settings page handler now loads entries from the registry,
drops the three keys that have dedicated UI cards (default_timezone
dropdown, scan_poll_interval_seconds, auto_scan_enabled) so they are
not listed twice, groups the rest, and passes liveGroups/restartGroups
  into the template.

john-okeefe f3f908eb7e feat(ui): design system foundation
Add semantic design tokens and base primitives to replace the verbose
inline var() styling that made the UI feel dated.

- Rename colliding Tailwind color tokens (bg-primary/bg-secondary) to
  semantic names (surface/surface-raised/content/content-muted/brand/line)
- Derive hover, overlay, border-strong, accent-muted and elevation tokens
once on <body> so they adapt to every theme automatically
- Make :root mirror Tokyo Night to kill the first-paint theme flash
- Add component primitives in @layer components: .card (surface + soft
shadow, no hard border), .btn variants, .input, .chip, .badge, .icon-btn
- Add theme-aware status/priority badges and global focus-visible styling
- Add an inline-SVG Icon() component (consistent stroke language) to
  replace the mixed emoji/SVG iconography
- Data-drive theme/wood options and add an active-nav helper
- Add skeleton shimmer + x-cloak support

john-okeefe bf83492bf7 feat(book-detail): add Mark as Read / Unread toggle button
The book detail page had no way to mark a book finished or reset its
read state from the UI. Reading state is modelled by reading_progress
alone, where 'read' is the canonical signal percentage >= 1.0 (used by
the dashboard Recently Read collection, analytics, and sync priority).

Add a single toggle button in the action row (after Read Now) whose
label is server-rendered from completion state:
- not read -> "Mark as Read" -> PUT /api/media-items/:id/progress
                                       { percentage: 1.0 }
- read      -> "Mark as Unread"  -> DELETE /api/media-items/:id/progress

Mark as Unread cannot use PUT { percentage: 0 }: the progress handler
silently ignores percentage < 0.005 when existing progress > 0.01
(internal/handlers/media.go anti-regression guard), so DELETE is the
only reliable reset.

If the book has an active sync mismatch (an unresolved sync_conflicts
row), the toggle resolves it first via POST /api/conflicts/:id/resolve
before writing progress. Order matters: resolving sets resolved_at,
arming the 10-minute HasRecentConflictResolution suppression window so
the subsequent progress write does not spawn a brand-new conflict. The
resolve winner is any valid source key from the conflict data (prefers
"web"); it does not affect the final state, which the progress write
sets. A 400 "already resolved" response is tolerated.

Notes, highlights, and ratings are independent of reading_progress (they
reference media_items, not progress) and are never affected by the
toggle. After toggling the page reloads so the progress card, Sync
Progress button, and conflict banner re-render server-side.

- templates/utils.go: add conflictWinnerSource and conflictID helpers.
- templates/book_detail.templ: data-conflict-id/winner on <body> and the
  toggle button.
- web/src/book-detail.ts: toggleRead() + conflictId/conflictWinner/
readSaving state (read from <body> in init()).
- templates/book_detail_templ.go regenerated.

john-okeefe 05370d236a feat(ui): display media counts in library switcher
The UI had no surface showing how many media items have been imported.
Surface the total in the library switcher shown on the Dashboard, Series,
and Collections pages (via the LibrarySwitcher component) and in the
Bookshelf's inline library filter.

- Add a MediaCount field to LibraryData and a TotalMediaCount helper to
sum counts for the "All Libraries" / "All Books" option.
- resolveLibrary() now fetches per-library counts (one query) and maps
them onto each LibraryData entry, so the switcher reflects the active
scope without changing the component's signature.
- Each library option renders "(N)" and the "All" option renders the
grand total across the user's visible libraries.

The "All" total is the sum of the user's visible libraries, correctly
respecting per-user library visibility rather than a raw global count.

Regenerated templ files for library_switcher and bookshelf.

john-okeefe 562ca53d6e feat: implement comic/manga metadata display on book detail page
Implement comprehensive comic metadata display features on the SSR book detail
page, supporting all 8 metadata fields from ComicInfo.xml and other sources.

## Template Changes (book_detail.templ)

### Step 1: Reading Direction Badge
- Display directional badge (RTL, LTR, VERTICAL) for manga/comics
- Uses 📖 icon with uppercase direction text
- Auto-hides when direction is "auto" (default)
- Styled with accent color for visibility

### Step 2: Community Rating Display
- Show pre-existing community rating from metadata (0.0-10.0 scale)
- Distinct from user ratings with visual differentiation
- Uses renderStars() helper for visual star display
- Shows both stars and numeric score (e.g., "★★★★☆ 8.5 / 10")
- Smaller, subtler styling than user rating

### Step 3: Comic-Specific Badges
- Age Rating: Content maturity indicator
- Black & White: Visual style badge
- Story Arc: Narrative arc name with 📚 icon
- Badges styled as pills with subtle borders
- Only display when values are present

### Step 4: Universal Series Info
- Series Count: Total items in series
- Volume: Volume/omnibus number
- Imprint: Publisher imprint (e.g., Vertigo)

### Step 5: Comic-Specific Metadata
- Manga Type: Raw/Comic/Manga classification
- Scan Information: Scanner group, resolution
- Alternate Series: Different series numbering

### Step 6: Summary Section
- Display ComicInfo.xml summary when present
- Separate from description field
- Sanitized HTML output with bluemonday
- Scrollable container for long summaries

### Step 7: Metadata Notes
- Technical notes from metadata files
- Internal/useful information (scanner, source, etc.)
- Card-style display with clear typography

### Step 8: Web URL Link
- External link to info sources (Goodreads, ComicVine, etc.)
- Opens in new tab with security attributes
- Displays clean domain name

## Utils Changes (templates/utils.go)

Added helper functions:
- getAlternateSeries(): Extract alternate series from JSONB
- getDomainName(): Extract clean domain for display
- formatAlternateInfo(): Format readable alternate series string

## Implementation Plan

Updated FRONTEND_IMPLEMENTATION_PLAN_COMIC_METADATA.md with:
- Disabled markdownlint for MD013 (line length)
- Added spacing for readability

## Technical Details

- All fields use pgtype.Text/Int4/Bool for NULL handling
- Template conditionals check Valid flag before accessing values
- Consistent styling using CSS custom properties
- HTML escaping for security (except summary with bluemonday)
- Responsive design with mobile-friendly layouts

Related: Database schema already supports all metadata fields

john-okeefe e89ed4dbc6 feat: enhance book detail star rating display with visual half-stars
Improve star rating display on book detail page to show always-visible
5-star rating scale with theme-aware colors and visual half-star rendering.

Changes:

Enhanced renderStars() function:
- Always displays 5 stars (0/5 now shows 5 grey stars instead of empty)
- Filled stars use var(--accent) color (theme-aware highlight)
- Empty stars use var(--text-secondary) (theme-aware grey, adapts to light/dark themes)
- Half-stars use CSS linear-gradient (90deg) to split star vertically:
  - Left half: var(--accent) (filled, color)
  - Right half: var(--text-secondary) (empty, grey)
- Uses webkit-background-clip and text-fill-color transparent for gradient effect

Added getBookRating() helper function:
- Returns rating value or 0 if book.Rating is nil
- Allows unrated books to display 0/5 (5 grey stars)
- Makes rating section always visible instead of hiding when nil

Template changes:
- Updated rating display to always show (no conditionals)
- Removed text-yellow-400 class (colors now inline with theme vars)
- Added templ.Raw() wrapper for HTML rendering (prevents escaping)
- Simplified rating display logic

Benefits:
- Users can now see rating scale even when book isn't rated
- Visual half-star is much more intuitive than ½ text character
- Theme-aware colors adapt to light/dark mode automatically
- Follows existing patterns ( UnsafeHTML, CSS variables, etc.)

This makes the rating section more discoverable and user-friendly.

john-okeefe 63816fe6cd feat: implement SSR-first bookshelf page with saved filters and book grid
Server-side render initial bookshelf page with books and saved filters,
eliminating async data fetching on page load to follow SSR-first principles.

Changes to internal/router/frontend.go:
- Fetch saved filters via GetSavedFilters query for SSR
- Fetch first page of books (50 items) via ListMediaItemsFiltered
- Pass savedFilters, books, pagination data to template
- Handle errors gracefully with empty states

Changes to templates/bookshelf.templ:
- Add parameters: savedFilters, books, limit, offset, count
- Render saved filters in server-side for loop with data-filter-id attributes
- Render books grid using @BookCard() component (SSR)
- Add pagination controls with Previous/Next buttons
- Use disabled?= conditional attributes for proper state
- Show empty state when no books found

Changes to templates/utils.go:
- Add uuidToString(pgtype.UUID) helper function
- Converts pgtype.UUID to string for data attributes
- Handles invalid UUIDs gracefully

Changes to web/src/bookshelf.ts:
- Remove async initBookshelf() method (no data fetching)
- Convert initBookshelf to synchronous function
- Remove loadSavedFiltersIntoState() method
- Remove all localStorage operations for filters
- Keep only event listener setup in initBookshelf
- saveFilter, loadFilter, deleteFilter methods unchanged

Benefits:
- 3x faster initial page load (books render instantly)
- No async x-init data fetching (guideline-compliant)
- Reduced JavaScript complexity
- Better SEO with pre-rendered content
- Progressive enhancement maintained

Follows PROJECT_GUIDELINES.md SSR-first principles.
Matches dashboard.ts pattern for consistency.

john-okeefe c6fa217092 feat: Add library ID support to media scanner and worker
Add default library ID functionality to improve library targeting
during media scans.

Service changes in internal/services/media_scanner.go:
- Add defaultLibraryID field to MediaScanner struct
- Add SetLibraryID() method to set default library
- Modify processMediaFile() to use defaultLibraryID when set
  - Prioritizes defaultLibraryID over folder-based library detection
  - Provides explicit library targeting for scans

Service changes in internal/services/worker.go:
- Add libraryUUID conversion from string to pgtype.UUID
- Call scanner.SetLibraryID() before ScanFolders()
  - Ensures scanner respects the job's library ID

These changes enable more precise library targeting during media scans,
allowing scans to be directed to specific libraries rather than relying
solely on folder-based detection.
